Novaro Taillight

Objective

Our client was building a killer 1969 Nova with heavy Camaro inspiration and needed a taillight to match.

Working with them we designed a new taillight lens that is inspired by the Camaro but still maintains the Nova identity.  We call it the Novaro Taillight.

This initial pitch render shows some early ideas for integrating the Camaro aesthetic into the Nova form factor.  During the initial design stages, we quickly settled on making the new design a direct replacement for the factory lens.

Challenges

Fitment: We needed to be sure it fit perfectly into the factory Nova taillight housings.

Optics: The lenses needed to be crystal clear and durable, as the client’s client loves driving their cars.

Rapid Prototyping

A combination of 3D scanning and 3D printing allowed us to rapidly increment our design to ensure perfect fitment and appearance and solving the challenge of fitment.

Injection Molding

Solving the optics challenge really only had one solution: if you’re making a lens it needs to be injection molded.  It’s the only way to get the clarity, durability, and finish consistency you need for taillights on a car that gets driven.

So that’s what we did, and it looks spectacular.
