We love the performance of modern engines in older cars. But let’s face it: modern valve covers are not the easiest things on the eyes.
We wanted a valve cover for the modern Gen 3 hemi engines that hides the coil packs and looks like it belongs in any engine bay, be it hotrod, muscle car, or anything in between.
We 3D scanned a factory valve cover to provide the data we needed for the valvetrain clearance, mounting hardware, coil pack bosses, and gasket surfaces.
Once we had the initial design in place, we did a little bit of comparative geometry between the scan of the original and our new model, to be sure everything would fit.
It starts with a big chunk of aluminum and an even bigger machine. A few hours of milling later, and the shape is emerging.
Wire boots are important to help complete the look of individual spark plug wires, so we 3D printed some prototypes to get the shape and look just right.
The real ones are injection molded and we think they look great.
We introduced the Icon Valve Cover at SEMA in 2021, and we were floored when it won Best New Product in the Street Rod/Custom Car category.
But just because it won an award as a hot rod product doesn’t mean you can’t use it anywhere you want, check out the pair of them on the Sasquatch build over at Carbuffnetwork!
